Todd Chrisley has been serving his 12-year prison sentence since January 2023. The TV star was found guilty of criminal bank fraud and tax evasion. But his daughter Savannah Chrisley still fights for his release.
Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie Chrisley were found guilty on federal charges of bank fraud and tax evasion and submitting false documents to fund their lavish lifestyle in June 2022. The couple have maintained their innocence as they serve their 12-year and seven-year sentences, respectively. However, daughter Savannah Chrisley relentlessly campaigns for their freedom.

January – The couple report to jail
The Chrisleys reported to their respective prisons on January 17. Todd, 54, checked into the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola – a minimum security federal prison camp. Julie, 50, was sent to Federal Correctional Institution and Federal Prison Camp Marianna but was later transferred to Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
February – Savannah feels her dad has ‘aged’
In a February episode of Savannah’s Unlocked podcast, the 26-year-old revealed she found it “weird” seeing her father with grey hair.
“He’s definitely used some color over the years and seeing him with gray hair I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh,'” she said.
As for her mother, Savannah alleged Julie’s living conditions “had no air,” noting that prison service dogs had better living quarters.
The star claimed: “There are service dogs for the prison that are in a heated and cooled building because it’s inhumane for them not to have air.”
“I read an executive order that [President Joe] Biden signed that said all federal inmates must be housed in environmentally friendly facilities. And I’m like, ‘OK, well, this is completely opposite of that,” she added.
March – Another TV star speaks out
Todd communicated with Dance Moms star, Abby Miller, via email. According to the TV star, the Chrisley Knows Best star “was always going on about financial institutions and people that were coming after him, his local government – always talking about that…”
April – Family take the jail terms ‘harder’ than their parents
In April, Savannah admitted her time behind bars was “definitely harder on her” than on Todd, but is “trying to do anything and everything” to stay busy.
Todd, meanwhile, was reportedly in great spirits. Lindsey Chrisley updated fans how her father was “embracing and making the best of the process.” He was even welcomed with open arms by his inmates.
May – Divorce rumors rock the Chrisleys
Julie Chrisley and Todd divorce rumors circulated as the couple continued to spend their marriage apart behind bars. Todd Chrisley and his wife reportedly didn’t talk in the year so far while in prison. But Savannah and Lindsie quickly shut down the “nasty” speculation.
“My parents are MADLY in love with each other and will come out of this trial even stronger and more in love than before,” Savannah clarified.
June – Todd Chrisley begins writing a memoir in prison during his first year
Todd began writing a memoir documenting his marriage and prison sentence. His daughter was doing all she could regarding his appeal process, calling it a “long journey“.
She also claimed her reports on the prison conditions, including black mold and no air conditioning, were “100 per cent factual”.
July – ‘No air conditioning’
Chase Chrisley joined Savannah’s podcast, during which they both agreed on the alleged horrific jail conditions. The siblings agreed that their parents had no air conditioning in 100-plus-degrees temperatures and Julie had a “poisonous snake” slithering near her bed.
August – Sentence is ‘taking a toll’
Chrisley’s attorney Jay Surgent told The LA Times the jail sentence was taking a mental toll.
“He’s still very energetic, but I think he’s suffering from anxiety in not knowing what’s happening on the outside with his case,” he updated.
September – Jail term is reduced
Good news hit the Chrisley family on September 8: the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed the couple’s prison sentences were reduced.
Todd’s new release date was set for January 22, 2033, two years earlier than his original sentence. Julie’s sentence was reduced by 14 months to October 19, 2028.
Attorney Surgent stated the reality stars were “model inmates” and qualified for the reductions under the First Step Act.
October – Todd and Julie Chrisley’s prison sentenced reduced for second year in a row
Todd continued his model inmate reputation by teaching finance classes in an attempt to further reduce their sentences. The First Step Act allows minimum and low-security offenders to earn credits for being productive in exchange for a sentence reduction.
Julie also passed on her real estate expertise at FMC Lexington.
November – Todd’s having trouble with ‘prison wardens’
After Savannah began advocating for better living conditions in prison, she alleged her parents had been facing retaliation from prison wardens.
“It’s been really tough [for them] since I started speaking out about everything. The moment you start speaking out, you have to pay for it,” she declared.
However, a records search by Reality Titbit in November found “prison president” Todd Chrisley’s release date was further reduced to December 23, 2032 – three years earlier than the original date.
December – Todd speaks out for the first tim
December marked Todd’s first prison interview, during which he disclosed his “disgustingly filthy” experience. The real estate tycoon alleged inmate food was expired by a minimum of one year, squirrels and rats were seen in food storage facilities, and a dead cat fell out of the ceiling onto inmate food.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) declined to comment on Chrisley’s allegations but reassured their facilities are “both secure and humane, prioritizing the physical and emotional well-being of those in our care and custody.”
